- History of the tango genre, from the small ensembles to the great orchestras.
Workshop for professional musicians; 1:45 - 4:30 (includes 12:30 talk); $55 - students and observers 1/2 price
Led by Martin Nemcovsky, assisting Pablo Hopenhayn. Saturday August 8th St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Music Studio.
- Using materials from music books of Horacio Salgan and Rodolfo Mederos, Martin will be explaining the different rhythm schemes of accompaniment in tango. He will address melodic and harmonic modifications on traditional tangos.

Tango piano masterclass; 6:15-8:00; $30 - students and observers 1/2 price

- Tango playing for pianists. Classical or Jazz Pianists Welcome (minimum registration required)

Guitar Masterclass; 2:00-4:00

- The roll of the guitar as an accompaniment instrument. Select resources for fills. Solo performance and adaptations of traditional tangos to the guitar. (Minimum registration required)

Saturday
Choreographed Tango; Led by Alejandro Figliolo (Buenos Aries) dancing with Monica Monty of (Vancouver).
- Session II, second half, $50, Saturday August 8, 1:15-4:15, St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kirk Hall.
Must register with dance partner and will be learning a choreographed dance created by Alejandro. Students will have the opportunity to perform at the intermission of the Saturday concert. For intermediate-advanced dancers.
Musicality for Dancers; 4:45-6:15 Saturday $25, with Linda Lee Thomas.
- St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Music studio. For all levels. (Minimum registration required)
Concepts in Contemporary Tango; 4:45-6:15 $25 taught by Deborah and Santiago. (Minimum registration required)
- Technique for creating connection, elasticity and dynamics in the walk and in all elements in contemporary Argentine Tango (sacadas, boleos ganchos, volcadas, soltadas). Includes discussion of nuevo tango as a pedagogical shift. For intermediate-advanced dancers. St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kirk Hall.
Improvising in Argentine Tango; 6:15-7:45 $25 by Deborah and Santiago.
- An overview of the structure of Argentine Tango and exercises for building improvisation skills to help break routines and repetitive movement sequences which inhibit dancers from responding freely to the music. For intermediate-advanced dancers. St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kirk Hall.
Sunday
Connection in Dancing, 2:00-5:00 $50, Sunday August 9. Led by Alejandro Figliolo (Buenos Aries) dancing with Monica Monty of Vancouver.
