Dance Classes

Classes are held at the Martin Batchelor Art Gallery (712 Comorant St). The art changes every month making this turn of the century building a lovely venue for classes.

Classes are inclusive to seniors, singles, couples and GBLT.

Argentine Tango - Level 1

Day / Time:
Sundays1:00pm-2:00pm (Jan 8 - Feb 12, 2012). Register for 6 week series or come as a drop in. .

Course Description:
This series is designed for those who have no dance experience - the pure beginner. We cover: Posture, Cadencias (Weight Transfer), Pivoting, Embrace (Connection to your partner), How to Lead/Follow, Caminada (Walking), Ochos, Paradas, Mordidas, and simple turns.

Argentine Tango - Level 2

Course Description:
This series is designed for those who know the basics (at least 1 month experience). Every class contains a review of the previous days' material and is combined to form a mini sequence. **Every 6-Day series is different.    

Argentine Tango & Nuevo- Level 3

Sundays 3:15pm-4:25pm (Jan 8 - Feb 12, 2012). Register for 6 week series or come as a drop in.

Course Description:
Tango Nuevo is a modern style of Argentine Tango. This class is a 6-part series is designed to fuse Nuevo Tango moves in with traditional Argentine Tango for use on the dance floor. Such moves as Soltadas and Colgadas will be taught along with Volcadas, Gaunchos, Sacadas, etc. This series is in conjunction with the Passion for Tango Society. This series will cover ~ 2 topics/subjects per class with a high focus on technique and review of the previous day's topic.    

All classes use a combination of traditional Argentine Tango, "Electronico" Tango and Neo-Tango music for dance.

These dance classes held by Passion for Tango are in collaboration with Tango Moderna. The classes are a project designed to assist volunteers from Victoria's Tango festival to gain experience in aspects of promotion and administration of the festival, as well as to introduce Argentine Tango to the public complemented with the history of tango music.

Instructor Dan Falk

Indicative of his passion for this dance, Dan lived in Buenos Aries, the world's premier home for Argentine Tango, the premier place to study and dance tango. He trained intensively for six months with masters of Nuevo, Fusion and Traditional tango and with many of the country’s top performers. Dan's style of teaching contains simple clean instruction with tangible descriptions of how to dance tango.  Dan teaches at Tango Moderna in Vancouver, BC.
